Announcing a world premiere: OASIS immersion, Montreal creative studio Normal Studio and Canadian producer Paquin Entertainment Group present VAN GOGH – Distorsion, an immersive experience entirely designed in Montreal. Continuing the worldwide phenomenon resulting from the union of the immersive medium and the Dutch-born painter’s work, this new exhibit embodies all the emotion of this encounter by paying tribute to the quiet strength that transcends the art of Van Gogh.
VAN GOGH – Distorsion offers a luminous and contemporary journey through more than 225 paintings, drawings and sketches. This exhibit marks a parallel between the recognition of the artist, the posterity of his work and the perspective of a more humanist tomorrow as a legacy to future generations.
OASIS
Today, some of my family and I went to the Van Gogh Distortion Exhibition; what an enjoyable experience! I’ll be honest, ever since the start of COVID-19, I haven’t been out to do very many things. I didn’t realize how much I had missed experiences until today. Held in Montreal on the ground floor of Palais des congrès, three immersive galleries bring you to a completely different time and place. I’m not just saying that, either. I truly felt like I was no longer in Montreal. At some moments, I felt like I was in a familiar dream; from different shades of blue to fields of flowers, along with the perfect music as a soundtrack for your trip- you’re taken on a journey that you will not soon forget.
I cannot argue with it being advertised as “soul-soothing”.
It was an unexplainable feeling- almost like how you feel after a two-hour therapy session (with the added bonus of not even needing to speak). I’m not sure if it’s because of how the past few years have been due to COVID, or if it’s due to where I’m at in my own life. Regardless, I recommend that everyone goes to experience what this exhibition has to offer.
OASIS immersion is proud to present its unique walk-through and contactless immersive exhibition in a vast new dedicated space which extends over 2,200 m2 (23,500 ft2) on the ground floor of Palais des congrès de Montréal. Explore our three (3) vast immersive galleries fully equipped with wall and floor projections, and a state-of-the-art surround sound system.
Located in the heart of Montreal, between the Old Port of Montreal and the Quartier des spectacles, OASIS immersion is an uplifting, feel good experience featuring inspiring people, places and trends from around the world.
The layout of the event is organized and incredibly spacious. The only issue you may have, is that you’ll want to stay in each section for hours on end to ensure full absorption of everything you’re seeing.
OASIS immersion is a sort of immersive magazine where spirited minds come to refuel and escape the routine of everyday life. There, visitors find fresh new ideas and inspiring works. It’s a place to rethink society and its foundations through the prism of optimism. The mood is upbeat, energizing and inspiring, one that calls to action. Light and movement are at the heart of the experience and this is reflected in our logo. The rays of the light spectrum criss-cross, reminiscent of the rich yet playful multi-sensorial projections of light, sounds, colours and themes, while the esthetics of the logo draw on contrasts and refinement.
About OASIS
It is perfect for those who:
1) know absolutely nothing about Van Gogh and 2) have studied his artwork. If you have ever experienced the urge to be artistic, I can promise you that you will feel this x 10000 as you move from room to room. I spent the majority of the experience thinking, “I cannot wait to get another canvas. I wonder how my paints and brushes are doing?”. You’ll feel inspired, to say the very least.
The tour continues with a special twist: imagining what Van Gogh could achieve with today’s creative tools, through presenting generative experiments inspired by recurring themes in his works: night, sun, flowers, colours, fields, nature, in minimalist symbiosis between visual and sound. The accompanying original sound design is also by Audio Z.
Gallery 2
It consists of the following (Information provided by OASIS):
Gallery 1: Van Gogh, in exploration mode
In this first stage, visitors are immersed in the creative universe of Van Gogh. Through rare drawings and sketches, we observe the evolution of his style and his sources of inspiration, with the special relationship he had with his brother as a backdrop, accompanied by an original contemporary soundtrack by Audio Z.
Gallery 2: Van Gogh, multimedia artist

Gallery 3: Van Gogh, larger than life
We are lulled into the luminous and poetic universe of his greatest masterpieces. The dynamic floor, one of the largest interactive surfaces in the world, allows visitors to explore the room, magnifying and transforming the rich details of the artist’s works through their presence. Sound arrangements are by Jean-Sébastien Côté, in collaboration with Emerich Demangel.
(The dynamic floor is AMAZING and so much fun for kids. Okay, yes… it’s fun for adults too).
It’s honestly hard for me to put into words all that the event has in store for its visitors. I will say, that I encourage you to go. It’s great for all ages, which makes it a perfect family outing or field trip. (There were children from toddlerhood to teenagehood in attendance who seemed to be enjoying themselves. And, I’ve spoken to many friends and family members whose kids loved it as well). Although, I would double-check for safety and health advisements. I don’t specifically recall any strobe light effect but just to be on the safe side, I would call ahead of time for guidance.
Have you visited Van Gogh Distortion? Or, have you been to another interactive experience that I should know about? Leave me your thoughts below! As always, thank you for reading!
