Just like I wrote for my review on Hercules, I went into this film not expecting too much. I had heard awful reviews. Even though the trailers seemed to show quite a few good action sequences, they also showed Megan Fox’s terrible acting. Therefore, I was a bit worried about what I was getting myself into. However, just like Hercules, I was once again pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it.
Megan Fox is unimpressive. Yes, I know; she’s nice to look at. Except I really don’t need to just hear her breathing for over an hour. Will Arnett’s humor and the overall storyline make up for Fox’s acting though. I am not a “TMNT know-it-all”, so maybe there were parts of the storyline that would make die-hard fans a bit upset. Due to me being completely unaware of any such things, I could just enjoy the film. Yes, the script was super cheesy at some points; almost as cheesy as the 99 cheese-topped pizza. For the most part, I wasn’t rolling my eyes every two seconds.
The action scenes and the effects were well done which is not surprising since Michael Bay produced it. I had to look up how he and Megan Fox were able to work together again after their feud- read about that here. I loved the armor that Shredder wears and I would want it for myself honestly. My favorite part of the whole thing was the elevator scene but I won’t give any spoilers away.
Overall Rating
It was an enjoyable film to go see on a rainy day or just for the laughs. The comedic scenes were my favorite parts and I would watch it again once it is released from theatres. The guy we saw going into it with a TMNT shirt may not agree with my review of it and that’s fine- I can see all sides to this however I would definitely tell people to just take a chance and watch it. I really doubted I was going to go see it in the theatre but I am glad I changed my mind.
Cowabunga!
