My Pretty Creativity Personalized Items
I believe that for any entrepreneur, it is important to learn from others. As a Mom who works from home, I look up to other inspirational Moms who balance work and family life.
This past December, I was part of a Holiday Fair and was overjoyed to meet Erin from My Pretty Creativity. My booth was right across from hers, so I spent the day looking at all of her beautiful products. When the fair was over, I left wishing I had been able to buy one of everything.
I recently received my first order from My Pretty Creativity. I ordered two stemless wine glasses that were customized to have “Mom Life” and “On Cloud Wine” written on them. As soon as I opened the package, I was in love and I could not wait to share more information with all of you.
Here is a photo of the glasses I received, and how they were neatly wrapped upon delivery. I love how they even come with care instructions for each one. It is small details such as that, which makes me really appreciate the work Erin puts into each piece.
My Pretty Creativity offers an extensive line of personalized, handmade products. If you’re not in the market for wine glasses, there is definitely something else that will catch your eye. To give you more information about the products, I spoke to Erin not only about her business, but also about her experiences as an entrepreneur.
“…time is the one thing we can never get back.”
My Pretty Creativity officially launched at the end of 2014 but has changed and grown a lot since then. Erin was inspired to start her own business because of her Son. Her degrees were in Sociology with a concentration in Diversity and Criminal justice, and her careers have included being a waitress, being in marketing Marketing and eventually she became a Buyer.
Having her Son changed everything, especially when some health issues for both of them arose. She resigned from her career to be at home with him, and spend as much time with him as she possibly could.
“Everyone is healthy now but I have learned that time is the one thing we can never get back. So while deciding to remain a stay at home mom, I started dabbling in things to keep me busy while he was at school. I started making cards and soon after giving some out, I was asked several times by people to buy them. And so, my business began.”
At the beginning, the only products being offered were the greeting cards. Fast forward to today, and the product list has grown dramatically. If you would like a price list, you can contact her and she will gladly provide you with one (contact information can be found below). You can also visit her Facebook page.
“I am always looking for fresh, new ideas to keep my customers happy and to keep my creative side active. I love what I do.”
After I placed my order, I was surprised by how quickly Erin provided them. Whenever I place an order, I am always so excited to receive it, that I constantly check the status of shipment. When you place an order with My Pretty Creativity, an order can usually be completed in a couple of days to a week or two. However, there are other factors to take into consideration. Such as the type of order, size of order and how many other orders she has at the time. For example, bulk orders are offered, so orders such as those are more time consuming. (If you’re interested in a bulk order, Erin will work with you one on one to discuss your options). It also depends on her personal life as she makes it very clear, that she is always a mom first.
As a work at home Mom, I am constantly trying to find the proper balance between finding time to work while not jeopardizing my Mom duties. This can be a challenge and I am always asking fellow Moms how they do it. It seems that Erin and I do the same thing- do as much work as you can while your child has gone to bed, or while they are at school.
“I love my business and love what I do, but I am a mom first. Everything else comes after.”
During the process of ordering my new favourite glasses, Erin made sure to know every detail of exactly what I wanted. That attention to every aspect of the pieces was appreciated and I can see why they are her best sellers.
When questioned about her favourite items to make, her response was the wine glasses since it’s fun to come up with new ideas for them and bringing client ideas to life. I love hearing about people who are passionate about what they do, and while they take it seriously as a job, they still have fun while working. She also introduced puppy stockings this past holiday season and they were just as much fun to produce.
“I could not believe how many unique dog names are in the area! I need to compile a list of them!”
When it comes to the most popular items sold, she also has large beer mugs that give the wine glasses a run for their money. Around the holidays and Father’s Day, they make the perfect and unique gift, so that is not surprising.
As you can see, there is quite the variety of items. I would assume that at one point, there would be a limit to how she is able to personalize a product. Thankfully, that has not been an issue for her yet. Erin tries her best to work as hard as possible to pull off what the client has envisioned. Limits may not be a setback, but it is impossible to run a business and not hit some sort of bump in the road.
“My business functions year round, but I get super busy around holiday times. I work alone, so it is overwhelming at times. To get over that, I honestly just push through! It helps that my family is supportive. I am also learning who I can and can’t trust and where to source my products. It is so important to me to provide quality items and service, so I just focus on doing exactly that!”
When I met Erin at the fair, it was the first time I was running a booth. Erin looked so calm and collected, I kept telling myself to watch and learn. While speaking with her, I found out that it was her first Season doing events! I had not been able to guess as much, but she was just as nervous as I was. Neither of us knew what to expect, but Erin obtained all the objectives she had set for herself, so I would expect to see her at more events. I will be sure to share any events you can find her at in the future. Simply follow my Facebook page to stay updated.
As for the future of My Pretty Creativity, Erin hopes it continues to grow, while keeping it fun and fresh. It is clear that she prides herself on her customer base. It is her mission to continue to keep her clients happy, and keep bringing their and her ideas to life!
I always ask business owners what advice they have for other entrepreneurs starting their own business. Erin’s advice?
“Believe in yourself and go for your dreams. I always tell my Son, ‘Dream Big!’ ”
