This Ground Sesame Chicken recipe from Mantitlement, was perfect for the amount of energy I had for cooking tonight. The Winter tends to drain my battery a bit faster and after going for a nice, long walk yesterday (I post stories and photos of most of my walks to Instagram), I wanted to make something simple for dinner tonight.
And, simple it was! After less than an hour of preparation, my partner was eating it and telling me that it was “Restaurant quality”. Yes, he’s very kind and may have a biased opinion but I’ll take it! I like that you can increase/decrease the amount of chili sauce you use depending on how much heat you enjoy. It offers a beautifully rich color while it’s cooking and it’s one of those dishes that will keep you feeling warm and satiated.
Ground Sesame Chicken
Ingredients
- 1 tsp Olive Oil or Non-Stick Cooking Spray
- 1/2 cup Onion, diced
- 2 Tbsps Garlic, chopped
- 2 lbs Ground Chicken Breast
- 1 tsp Salt
- Fresh Black pepper, to taste
- 1 Tbsp Chili Garlic Sauce
- 1/2 cup Soy Sauce
- 1/3 cup Brown Sugar
- 1–2 Tbsps Toasted Sesame Oil (Start with 1 and add more if desired)
- 1/3 cup Chicken Broth
- 1 Tbsp Cornstarch mixed with 1 Tbsp of water
- Chopped Scallions and Sesame Seeds, for garnish
Instructions
- Add the olive oil to a skillet over medium heat. Cook the onion for 3-4 minutes until softened, then add the garlic and cook a minute longer.
- Add the ground chicken to the skillet and cook while breaking it up into small pieces until the chicken is cooked through. Season the chicken with salt and pepper.
- Mix the chili garlic sauce, soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, and chicken broth in a bowl. Pour over the ground chicken and stir to combine.
- Bring to a simmer and then add the cornstarch mixture while stirring. Simmer the chicken until the sauce is thickened, taste for seasonings, and serve on top of rice with scallions and sesame seeds.
