Review
After waiting for what felt like FOREVER, we were finally able to see Deadpool. Let’s just say that it was worth the wait.
The theatre was filled with people of all ages. Yes, parents brought their kids! Some of them looked like they were around 7 years old… (I guess they didn’t read the PSA from Deadpool himself). Therefore, just for a side note: would I bring my young kids to this film? No. Absolutely not.
I understand that violence is everywhere now and some people are desensitized to it, but this is definitely not a film for children. It is Rated R for a reason. There is constant profanity, violence, and several scenes revolving around sex.
The action scenes in general were fun to watch. Especially “The Countdown”, but I was 25 years old when I saw this; not a 7-year-old kid. Plus, the jokes they make in the film, as funny as they are, will pass right over a child’s head. Children will probably be too young to understand the references anyway. Anyway, that’s just my two cents for any parent wanting to bring their child/children. It is, of course, up to you in the end but I would respect Deadpool’s wishes.
Anyways…
As soon as the opening credits appeared on the screen, you got a vibe of the type of humor you would be receiving throughout the rest of the film. Ryan Reynolds was the perfect actor for delivering the wit and sarcasm necessary to make Deadpool the character we love so much. Ed Skrein, who I have spoken about before due to him taking Jason Statham’s place in the Transporter franchise, played his role as Francis (or Ajax if you prefer) perfectly.
T.J Miller who played Weasel, did his part in adding even more humor, as we saw sneak peeks of in the trailer. His scenes did not disappoint. I was pleasantly surprised to have Colossus’ character make me laugh as much as it did. This film is in no short supply of X-Men references. Especially, especially when it comes to our favorite Aussie, Hugh Jackman/Wolverine. As always, Stan Lee’s cameo, like in every other film, made me smile and want to give appreciative applause.
Morena Baccarin, Gina Carano, and Brianna Hildebrand offered the perfect “feminine touch” to the film. If you even want to go as far as calling it feminine, that is. I am not a fan of sappy, love stories, or chick flicks (for the most part). Something I am always afraid of is having the few love-related scenes of a film ruin the rest of it. Luckily, this did not happen this time. The love story between Wade Wilson and Vanessa is a major part of it. But, it only made me roll my eyes once during the entire film. For me, that is a pretty great statistic.
Overall
It is a fun ride of a film. I am extremely happy that the music they used for the trailer (DMX’s “X Gon’ Give It To Ya”) was actually used in the film. Shoop by Salt’N’Pepa will also be stuck in my head for the next week. I also laughed as much as I expected to.
It did start to feel a bit long at some parts but I thoroughly enjoyed this cinematic experience. Lastly, be sure to wait until the very end of the credits to get a bit more time with Deadpool. I can’t wait to see what comes next.
Did you see it and did it live up to the hype or do you think it was overrated?
Let me know!
I went to see DeadPool last night as had cinema vouchers to use up and the hype around it. I was impressed and think it definitely deserves all the praise it’s been getting.
I am glad you enjoyed it!! It’s rare that movies live up to the hype so it’s definitely nice for a change- although this year was a great one for film in general!
