Summer is here and what is better than a juicy, BBQ Cheeseburger to celebrate?
This recipe uses a lot of the ingredients I use for my Favorite Meatloaf but with a few tweaks.
Make them on the grill or on the stovetop, and add your favorite toppings! The leftover patty mixture can be used to make a meatloaf if desired.
*I always just “wing” the amounts of each ingredient I use the first time I make anything, so tweak the recipe amounts to your liking if necessary!
Juicy and Cheesy BBQ Cheeseburger Recipe
Ingredients
1 lb of Lean Ground Beef
1 Onion, Diced
1/2 Cup Milk
1 Egg
1/2 Cup Grated Cheese
1/3 Cup of your Favorite BBQ Sauce
1/3 Seasoned Panko Crumbs/ Breadcrumbs
1 Tsp Pepper
1 Tsp Garlic Salt
2-3 Tbsp Cold Water per lb of meat (Optional)
Adding water replaces the moisture that escapes during the cooking process and keeps the burger juicy.
Extras:
Cheese Slices
Bacon
Avocado
Tomato
Lettuce
Condiments- Relish, Ketchup, Mustard, etc
Instructions
In a large bowl, beat the egg. Add the rest of the ingredients, adding the ground beef last and in chunks; mix well. Try not to handle the meat too much. The more you work with it, the tougher it gets.
If the mixture seems too wet, add more breadcrumbs. Form the patties, and using your thumb, make a circular indent in the middle. This helps prevent the burger from puffing out while cooking.
Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat until it is sizzling. If cooking them on a grill, make sure to use a lightly greased, clean grill pan. These are quite juicy and may fall apart easily so the pan will save you a lot of clean-up time.
Place the patty in the skillet, indent side up. Cover and cook for about 5 minutes. Try not to touch the patty! Don’t squish it down with a spatula, pierce with a fork, etc. The less you touch it, the juicier it will be.
Right before flipping, add a tiny pinch of sea salt. Adding salt beforehand sucks the moisture out of the patty, leaving it less juicy. Flip and cook for another 4-5 minutes. With two minutes remaining, add a slice of cheese to the top of the patty.
Toast burger buns and add margarine to each side. Assemble your burger using any condiment and toppings you wish and enjoy! I always love to use avocados, tomatoes, and lettuce because they are a refreshing, healthy addition.
